In 2014 I started this blog. I had no idea what I was doing. I just wanted a little corner on the internet where I could share my thoughts. I have managed to learn a lot since then and I'm still learning something new everyday. 

A few important things I've learnt is that blogging requires time and effort. You need ensure that you are creating quality content which your readers will find valuable. Social media plays an important role in blogging because people can't read your blog of they don't know about it. Social media gives you a platform to connect with people and promote yourself. Lastly, blogging requires passion. Don't just start a blog because everyone is doing it. Blogging is not easy and if it's not something you enjoy you will have a hard keeping up. 

Those are just a couple of lessons I've learnt along the way. However, there's always room to learn more.  The infographic below contains some tips on starting a travel blog by some of South Africa's top travel bloggers. However, I believe this advice can be helpful to any type of blogger at any stage of their blogging journey. It provides helpful information and simply summarises everything to know about blogging. 

I am starting my final high school exams exactly a week from now. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by. I am excited to finally finish with high school and no matter how much I hate to admit it there will be some parts that I will miss. This blog post is dedicated to my outfit and my thoughts about finals. 

I'm feeling quite nervous about finals. I know how important these exams are and everyone around me keeps reminding me. However, I'm also feeling quite motivated to study and to try my best. I attended the Junior Tukkie Preparation Conference last week and it's exactly what I needed. I honestly just want to write and get this over and done with. I don't want my life to only be about academics. I'm still trying to find a way to balance everything and it's proving to be quite a struggle but I'm trying. 

Now let's move on to the more exciting stuff, my outfit. I'm at a point where my sense of fashion is changing but I have no idea where I'm headed. I am just trying out a whole bunch of things and falling for all the trends. At the moment folding up my jeans to expose my socks is my favourite. I still need to invest in cool socks though but I'll get there. 

I'm just in a very weird point in my life but I'll survive. All the best to the other matriculants. We got this!

Whenever I need a kick of inspiration I always go on YouTube to watch a motivational video. It always does the trick and leaves me feeling like a can take over the world. However, I believe my source of inspiration comes from myself.

There are a number of things I would like to accomplish and that’s what keeps me inspired. I always ensure to write down my goals because it makes them feel more real. I know exactly what I’m working towards and that makes it easier to stay inspired.

There are some days when I don’t feel like doing anything at all and that’s okay. Sometimes you just need to take a break. I’m still learning how to balance everything because there are days that I have to push myself to do work even when that’s the last thing I would like to do. 

I always talk about how fear is a prison but I guess my fear of dying with my dreams unfulfilled has really helped me. I’m doing this for myself and I believe that’s the most important thing. I’m not trying to impress anyone or trying to fulfil anyone else’s goals. That’s what really keeps me inspired, getting up every day and working towards something that important to me.

I’m currently in the process of learning web design and development. I’m happy to say that I’ve learnt quite a lot without spending any money at all. There are hundreds of free resources that are available. I have used a couple and a few have stood out.

SoloLearn Apps:

This is where my coding journey began. These apps are wonderful for learning the basics of coding. There are different apps for the various programming languages. I used the HTML, CSS and JavaScript apps. These are focused on teaching the theory which is done by a series of lessons and quizzes. 

Codecademy:

Codecademy offers a wide selection of courses to choose from which range from around 4-8 hours. They help you understand the logic of coding and are more interactive as compared to learning through a book. 

W3schools.com:

W3Schools is useful for reference purposes rather than learning programming. This is where I turn to when I get stuck and I used it a lot in the early stages of my learning process. It’s provides simple solutions that are easy to understand.

YouTube:

There are hundreds of YouTube channels that provide valuable information. It may take some time to find something that works for you but it’s all worth it in the end. I use YouTube to find sample projects and learn more about the world of web and mobile app development in general.

Practice:

I spent a lot of time trying to learn everything without doing any practice at all. I’ve learnt that practical knowledge is key. It teaches you how to solve problems and it gives you real life experience.

I started 2017 with a long list of goals and I decided to read the book #GirlBoss to inspire myself to work towards them. I started reading the book in February however, my phone was stolen and everything was just a mess at that time. This lead to me feeling uninspired and I stopped reading the book. A lot of things have changed and recently, I decided to start reading the book again.

In the book, Sophia Amoruso, speaks about her journey as an entrepreneur and how her company, Nasty Gal, got to where it is today. The book also features a few other female entrepreneurs which I really found interesting because it shows what being a #GirlBoss means to different people.

The book contains valuable information about starting and running a business, dealing with finances, the importance of staying true to yourself and a whole lot more. Sophia shows that there is no correct way to start a business. It’s all about working hard to get what you want.

A very important lesson that I learnt is that you just have to start and you will learn along the way. This is something I have been struggling with but after reading this book I’ve realised that sometimes you have got to put your fears aside and go for it. A quote from the book sums it up beautifully, “Abandon anything about your life and habits that might be holding you back. Learn to create opportunities. Know that there is no finish line; fortune favours actions.  Race balls out toward the extraordinary life that you’ve always dreamed of, or still haven’t had time to dream up. And prepare to have a lot of fun along the way.”

My sister and I wanted to do something exciting to celebrate the beginning of spring. After a few minutes of brainstorming we decided that a trip to the zoo was the best way to do it. We hadn't been there in ages and it was a wonderful way to spend time outdoors.

We arrived in the late afternoon and it was quite warm. We walked around with the aim of finding the aquarium because that is my absolute favourite place. It has so many beautiful colours and it makes me feel as though I am in a whole different world.

The reptiles were also very interesting. Snakes are actually very fascinating and their very good at camouflage. Which is quite scary yet exciting at the same time. The penguin were also so cool. Maybe it's because of the movie Madagascar or maybe it's the fact that they can swallow an entire fish at one go. All the other animals were also interesting but they didn't really stand out.

I have mixed feelings about the zoo. I love seeing all the animals but some of them seem really sad and lonely. I really wish I could be the hero of the story and set them free. Unfortunately, that won't be happening soon. However, it was fun seeing all the animals and being outside made me even more excited for spring!

Ever since learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript I've never actually completed a project. Yesterday, I was feeling quite motivated. I sat in front of my laptop and I made a website. I'm so proud of myself. It took me approximately two hours to make. 

It is just a simple website and I only used HTML and CSS. So, it doesn't actually do anything but it was some good practice. I'm definitely going to be making more projects because you learn by doing.

I just jotted down an idea on paper and then I recreated it with HTML and CSS. I played around with the colours until I found the colours that worked best together. My next goal is to create responsive websites and some cool web apps. Practice makes perfect and ,of course, I'll be sharing all my projects and progress on here!

I have recently realised that it is quite easy to trick the mind into thinking that you are actually getting stuff done. I started learning HTML and CSS back in 2014 yet I have barely anything to show for it. I always talk about what I want to do but hardly ever get it done. When I realised this I knew I had to make some major changes. I know where I want to be in the future and I have to do everything I can in order to get. This is one of the reasons why I decided to change things up on the blog. I will be documenting my journey of learning how to code on my blog. I'm focusing on web development as well as mobile app development.

How exactly do I plan on learning?

Codecademy:

This is a online resource with various courses that I discovered a couple of months ago. It's recommended by many peopl, it's very easy to use and it's free.

YouTube:

There are countless YouTubers who share useful tips. It's also easily accessible and free.

Forums and Blogs:

These are great for when I get stuck on at a certain point. Just type in the question on Google and somebody has probably solved the problem.

Books:

I'm still trying to find out which books to buy and I will definitely share them with you.

I can't explain how excited I am to FINALLY get serious about learning how to code. Here's to a new adventure!

I started this blog over three years ago. I was fourteen at the time and life was totally different. I can barely explain all that has happened over the past few years and that is why I've decided to make some big changes.

I am no longer the same person I was when I started this blog. I have grown and I have discovered new parts of myself. It's only natural that my blog continues to grow with me.

Sempiternal Adventures has always been a place for me to write about my life and all the things I find interesting. I love fashion and I probably always will but I think it's time for me to try something a little different. I have decided to focus on technology, design, coding and lifestyle.

I am not an expert when it comes to flat lays but I have been creating flat lays for about for years now and it has definitely taught me a lot. I decided to share what I've learnt and hopefully stop some one from creating the same mistakes as me.

1. Angles

Try to be parallel to the the area you are photographing otherwise it may create an awkward angle that is not aesthetically pleasing.

2. Lighting

Lighting is key. You may think it will be easy to fix the image through editing but it can prove to be a struggle when you are starting out. Natural lighting is your best friend.

3. Background

A background that contrasts the items in your flat lay is the best. You don't want your items disappearing in the background.

4. Positioning

Try to fill up your space without cluttering up the space. If you are going for a minimal look try to position your items in the centre. It's all about playing around with the positioning and seeing what works best.

5. Make mistakes

You won't learn everything over night. I'm still trying to figure it out.

1. Photo Stands - Typo

These are the most adorable things ever and I didn't even think twice before purchasing them I use the to hold up my to do lists and to decorate my room.

2. Shorts - Factorie

I bought these as soon as winter started and I still haven't gotten a chance to wear them. Can we just fast forward to summer already?

3. Mini Sewing Kit - Mini So

I was watching a lot of YouTube videos about sewing which made me think that I could give it a try. I went online, I discovered mini sewing machines and a few hours later I purchased one but that's a story for another day. I bought this mini sewing kit to use with my mini sew machine. Everything is mini and I'm loving it.

4. Taylor Bag - Typo

My sister bought this for me so shout out to her for being the best sister in the world. I thought it would be big enough for my laptop but it does the trick if I shove it in hard enough. It also adds a pop of colour to my life.

5. Pastel Backpack - Zara

This was on sale at Zara and I couldn't resist it. I had to use my emergency money but it was worth it.

I have 4 months of high school left. I am filled with a mixture of emotions but mostly excitement. I am looking forward to life after high school. However, I have a whole bunch of exams to write before I get there. After seeing some of my June exam results, I've realised that I have to make some changes to my strategy. So, here's the plan:

1. Time management

I have a lot of time on my hands but using it wisely is not my strong point. I just have to allocate time for work and play.

2. Bullet journal

A few months ago I stopped using my bullet journal. It wasn't the best decision so I'm back at it again. However, this time around I'm only going to focus on organising my life and not making it look pretty.

3. Multitasking

For many years I told myself I could study while watching T.V. Turns out I was wrong and I need to stop doing it as soon as possible.

4. The little things

I think it's time to stop leaving everything for the last minute and start doing small things everyday. It's the small things that mean the most after all.

I'm ready to kill my preliminary exams and my finals! Let's do this. I'd also appreciate any tips you might have for me.

Typo is my absolute favourite store. When I walk in I just fall in love with everything. I wish I could buy it all and although my heart is saying yes my bank account is disagreeing. So, I can't have it all but I can have the DIY kits and that's okay with me. They are my latest obsession so if you want to get me a little present anytime soon, I hope you pick up the hint.

DIY Album Kit:

This was a Christmas gift from my sister and it is currently a work in progress. I actually use it as my dream journal where I write my goals and quotes to keep myself motivated.

DIY Stitch It Kit:

I actually filmed myself doing this DIY. It was loads of fun but also quite challenging but I'm happy to say that I can cross something off my bucket list. I also learnt that maybe embroidery is not my thing.

Stitch a Book Kit:

I haven't started with this one yet because I really love how the notebooks look without the thread. I'm still trying to come up with a solution. Maybe I'll stitch one and leave the other as it is? Why does life have to be so confusing?

Winter is so confusing. Just because the sun is out doesn't mean that it's warm and Johannesburg is way colder than Pretoria. So, basically those are some of the things I learnt on the day I wore this outfit. 

Ever since I started seeing all the cool girls on Instagram wearing these pom-pom keyrings I knew it was a trend I couldn't miss out on. Clothing just got a whole lot cooler. Unfortunately, my skirt didn't have belt loops so I had to get creative with a safety pin. I'm happy to say I survived the day with no injuries.

The rest of my outfit is pretty basic, all black. The shades of black don't match but I did the best I could. I cannot wait for the day I can afford clothing that is the same shade of black.

I wore the plaid shirt on top of my t-shirt because tying it around my waist was not an option in the cold weather. It was almost like a substitute for a jacket but that didn't really work out for me but I looked cool so I'm happy.

I started the year 2017 just like every other year, with a list of goals and a positive attitude. However, this year has been nothing like the other years. The past few years haven't been the easiest and I went through difficult challenges. I was able to overcome some of those challenges but I have always battled to let go. I believe that this is the year when I began letting go of everything that has happened and focusing on what's ahead.

The first 6 months of 2017 have also taught me a number of things about myself. I'm at a point in my life where I have to make important decisions and that's making question things I've always believed were right. I'm also learning that I don't have to have everything figured out, I'm still young and there is no correct time in life where you have to have things all figured out.

My main goal at the moment is to be happy, genuinely happy. I'm still figuring out what this really means and just focusing on things that bring me joy.

The next few months I'll be focusing on Van Street Media(my social media agency), Sempiternal Adventures, school and most importantly, myself. Taking care of yourself is not selfish and I've discovered that it's one of the most important aspects in life. 

I guess there is a something intriguing about feeling lost, that's when you discover the most about yourself.

We are half way through the year. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was writing down my goals for 2017. So much has happened already and I'm almost done with my final year of high school. Everything is happening way too quickly. I thought it would be a good idea to slow down and look back at my goals for the year. I still have time to make things happen.

I have been away for so long. It just seemed like everything was happening at once so I just needed a little break. This is the longest break I've taken since I started my blog and I honestly don't know how to feel about that. I am feeling motivated and inspired to do a whole bunch of stuff so I guess you can say I am back to my usual self.

A little update about what's been going on in my life. I wrote exams, I applied at a couple of universities, got accepted, got rejected, watched a couple of YouTube videos, watched 6 seasons of Shameless, started a digital marketing course, my tablet got stolen and I just thought about my life. I guess that pretty much summarises everything that has happened in the past few weeks.

Enough with the boring stuff and onto my outfit. I don't know what's going on with my fashion sense at the moment. I like a lot of different styles and I can't afford many of the clothes that I like. So, this outfit is basically me just throwing together a couple of items in my closet and actually liking it. And no mom, I can't pull up my jacket because I'm doing it for the culture.

I guess I can officially say I'm back. I'm going to stick to my usual schedule of posting on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. I'll also try to have a video up every week. Taking a break was exactly what I needed. Now I'm back and ready to do some cool stuff.

When Justin Bieber performed in South Africa a couple of years ago I wasn’t much of a Belieber but as soon as I found out he was coming to South Africa again this year I knew I had to go. I waited in line for 3 hours the day the tickets went on sale and it seemed like ages before the day of the concert  finally arrived. It was totally worth the wait despite the rain and the cold weather on the day of the concert.

Finding something to wear was such a struggle. I knew I wanted to wear Purpose Tour merch and I searched everywhere without any success. I was just about to give up when I spotted the coolest Purpose Tour hoodies at the guys section at H&M  the day before the concert. They definitely made my sister and I feel and look wonderful (they also kept us super warm).

The concert took place on Sunday, 14 May 2017, at the FNB Stadium Johannesburg and to say it was freezing is an understatement but we had fun nonetheless. Sketchy Bongo and The Wolfgang opened for Justin Bieber and  I definitely enjoyed the EDM vibes. I danced, I sang and I just had a good time.

To put it simply, the opening act was awesome but I only had one thing on my mind, Justin Bieber. When he finally came on stage I could not contain my excitement. I didn’t cry as I had expected to but I can confirm that I was pretty close to crying. I enjoyed every single performance but ‘What About the Children’ has to take the number one spot. It was just so electric and amazing and I can’t even  think of other adjectives to describe how incredible it was.

Every performance was spot on. The energy, the dance moves, the fireworks, EVERYTHING! Justin definitely gave me purpose. Thank you Justin and sorry mom for not spending Mother’s Day with you.
